After a few weeks of holidays, our botanical lab in Žižkov is now open again and we’re super excited to share our favourite flora with you. Alongside the Instagram classics such as pilea, monstera or sansevieria, you can found more rare plants that maybe don’t reign social media but whose story is all the more intriguing.
Take plumerias. This shrub that usually grows up to 6m of height, is a historical symbol of both the Aztecs and the Maya. Its flowers produce intense scent, particularly at night when they lurk night sfinx moths. Other Latin American flora currently in store is lovely opuntias and tillandsias as well as cacti of various forms and shapes - grown locally by Czech growers. The popular coconut palm is back, too, with its beautiful leaves up to 160cm of height.
This season brings to Haenke one more news: you can get cuttings of selected plants now too - because to wait for them to root and then follow your small babies grow is the best of botanical adrenaline.
And if you enjoy propagating and plant swaps then you mustn’t miss out on the one we’re hosting with Sustainably Chic as part of their Týdenní swap at prostor39 next Friday, 28. září. Apart from a regular plant shop you will have the chance to see us for a botanical advisory (from 3 to 8) and give a talk on plants and sustainability from 5pm. If you can’t make it then just come have a look to Haenke and make your lives a little bit more greener - we’re here between 1 - 7pm every working day.
